The American Pit Bull Terrier

Pit bull terriers have suffered a bad rep in recent years but thankfully is now bred moreso as a companion dog. Pit bulls can weigh between 14 and 36 kgs, they have extremely powerful bodies with big strong shoulders.

The pit bull terrier is a breed which knows no fear, bred for bull-baiting and fighting with other dogs. For this reason it is banned completely or restricted in some countries. The result of the pit bull terrier was a cross between staffordshire bull terriers, bulldogs and other fighting dogs.

Only very experienced owners should consider and handle this breed along with providing extensive socialisation from a young age (anywhere from 6-8 weeks up to adult and continuing the socialisation) to lessen it's agression.
